Sex is one of our most controversial subjects - from marketing to politics to intimate relationships - everyone has an opinion! Sex is also a subject that stirs up all manner of ethical dilemmas... Should condom vending machines be allowed in school? Should teenagers be allowed to have their boyfriend/ girlfriend sleep over? Should sex be allowed to sell products? Is it right that women are considered sluts if they are sexually active & guys are considered studs? We will be considering these issues & a whole lot more on Wednesday! We will have the opportunity to meet representatives from Slut Walk as well as the Melbourne Life Modelling Society to explore how they approach sexual ethics. Be ready to have an opinion & challenge some of your own perspectives :)
The value of life On this excursion, we will look at both humans and animals. Firstly, we will go to St Kilda to visit a wonderful sustainable home and see how wasting energy and food is costing our planet dearly. It’s an ethical dilemma for us all. The second part of the day will focus on animal testing. We tend to not think about it if we don’t see it, but how do you feel if an animal (who can’t defend itself) is used for purposes to enhance Humankind but to the detriment of the animal? Lots of tough questions that we will try to answer throughout the day!
Come along and experience what it is like to give back to our community. In the morning we will be visiting St Mary's House of Welcome where a group of people committed to 'further social justice by standing with disadvantaged people offering support, solutions and hope'. At SMHOW we will be preparing a morning tea of pancakes to offer visitors to the centre. After our visit we will be wandering down the Latitude Global Volunteering to hear about volunteering opportunities abroad. After lunch we will be surveying members of the public to discover who volunteers, why people chose to be volunteers and what they gain from being involved.
